Boqueria Food Market

Boqueria Market
The Boqueria market began as a street market, located in La Rambla, near the emblematic Gran Teatre del Liceu.

The current food market place was built in the mid XIX Century, back in 1836, when the Rambla had been urbanized, and was transformed into a great avenue.

Before being a market this was a former Convent, dedicated to St Joseph, that's why the name of the market is still preserving the dedication to this saint. So the real and complete name is " Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria".

Currently the total area of the market occupies more than 2,500 square meters, where you will find over 300 stalls, selling both typical Catalan products and exotic ones.

A huge variety of colorus, flavours and different products on sale ar giving a very special richness to this market venue. Specially remarkable are the areas of exotic fruits and spicies, as well as the fish and seafood products area.

For all its history, the dedication and effort  managed by local sellers,  the Boqueria Food Market has become by its own merits the most emblematic city market. It is a visit that we definitely recommended if you come to Barcelona..
