National Art Museum

National Art Museum Barcelona
The MNAC ( National Art Museum of Catalonia ) scrolls through ten centuries of Catalan art,  from the XI to the XX Century .

It is located in the National Palace, in the Hill of Montjuic, and it was built on the occasion of the International Exhibition hold in 1929 .

It has four permanent collections dedicated to different periods of art history . Not forgetting the stunning collections dedicated to the world of photography, drawings , engravings , posters and numismatics.

The most important ones are the areas dedicated to Romanesque and Gothic art : showing paintings, sculpture, religious objects and pieces of jewelry . If we talk about Romanesque art , the MNAC has a worldwide unique collection of murals , in terms of quantity and quality.

Equally important is the collection of Gothic art , painting altarpieces mainly made by Catalan masters of the XIV and XV Century, as J.Huget or Lluís Borrassà .

There are also areas dedicated to the art of the Renaissance and Baroque. The modern art acquisitions are part of several collections : Thyssen- Bornemisza and Collection Cambo among others. His works are those of the great European painters of the time: Titian, Rembrandt , Zurbaran , Velazquez , El Greco , Rubens ...

Without ignoring modern art collection with pieces by artists extraordinarily distinguished Modern Art Style such as Novell, Santiago Rusinol , Ramón Casas ..and XXth Century Avant-garde artists , representedby Antoni Tàpies , Picasso and Salvador Dali works among others.

Without any doubt this is the best museum of Barcelona to a better understanding of History of Art trhough the centuries.
