Popular festivals

There are many different festivals and celebrations in the region of Catalonia.

Some of these festivals come from the Christian tradition, marked on the liturgical calendar : Christmas , Easter processions ... While others come from much older pagan traditions, such as the festival of Saint John , celebrated in honor of the summer solstice .

Besides these , are noteworthy major festivals celebrated in every town or city to remember their patron saints or protectors.
 
Whatever the celebration that takes place, in the Catalan festivals are always present three common elements: fire , music and dance . The most traditional ones have also parades of giants and big heads, correfocs ( a fire show, with devils and firecrackers ) fireworks, dances and songs.
